What are the different sides of narcissism?

Narcissism has many faces. Knowing the different sides of narcissism will help us. We will then know how to recognize it in ourselves and in others.

We all need a good dose of self-love to appreciate ourselves and have good self-confidence. Narcissistic people seem very sure of themselves.

Deep down, however, they feel extremely insecure. In this article we expose the different sides of narcissism. In this way we can determine it in ourselves and in others.

The main characteristic of narcissistic people is that their ego is so big that it doesn’t leave enough room for others. In the eyes of other people, they are usually labeled as selfish. All they seek is the admiration of others. They like to show off their achievements so that others will love them.

Narcissistic people prey on others. If no one admires them or if they don’t have an audience to listen to what they have to say, their power diminishes.

That’s when they finally have to confront their dreaded lack of self-confidence. So we can say that the different sides of narcissism are the masks they are used to using to avoid this confrontation.

The Different Sides of Narcissism

Vulnerable Narcissists

Vulnerable Narcissists

So there are indeed many different sides of narcissism. However, the first category we will discuss describes those narcissists who put on a vulnerable mask towards others. Still, don’t let it fool you. After all, behind this mask is fear and an attempt to manipulate others.

  • Dependent narcissists: Their fear of abandonment creates an experience of emptiness. They place the responsibility for this feeling on the person they are with. Their emotional demands increase as the relationship continues. In addition, they also use manipulation techniques to prevent the person from leaving. They want to be the center of attention. Most of all they want someone to love them.
  • The Narcissistic Martyrs : These people use their suffering to justify their need for support and attention. It is also important to mention that no one is able to fully satisfy them. They try to connect others to them by making them feel guilty for not giving them the support they “need.”

You can see that this type of narcissist has a big void that they can’t seem to fill. They then resort to manipulation. In this way they try to get attention or appreciation from others. These types of narcissists always build destructive and harmful relationships.

Evil Narcissists

We just explained how certain narcissists use vulnerability to attract attention. However, evil narcissists use other techniques. This is one side of narcissism. Let’s take a look at the different types of evil narcissists.

Vicious Narcissists
  • Vengeful Narcissists : Their main purpose is to use lies and slander to humiliate others and feel superior in that way. They don’t like people who outdo them. So they will try to humiliate them and destroy the self-confidence of those people they see as competitors.
  • Deceitful narcissists: They seem to be very friendly people at first. However, this is just a facade. Their nice facial expressions are weapons they use. The goal is to make others like them and then take advantage of them.
  • Hostile narcissists: They use words to destroy everyone around them. Everything you say to them, they interpret as a personal attack. The only way to calm their anger is to praise them.
  • Tyrannical narcissists: They are unable to establish relationships with others without trying to dominate them. These people think they are better than everyone else. They look down on everyone around them. This even goes so far as to view others as objects. In addition, dominating others can even lead them to abuse.

Some Other Sides of Narcissism

Image

There are also narcissists who pay too much attention to their image. They appear on social media. People also keep commenting to praise their appearance. All this only reinforces their narcissism. Moreover, they think that because of their image, they can get everything they want, such as a job or a partner.

Messiah

Other narcissists believe they are the messiah. They like to tell others what to do and how to do it. This reinforces their sense of superiority (or at least combats their sense of inferiority).

They also “help” others when they don’t ask for help. However, they only do this to later rub it under the nose and ask for something in return.

Lies

Finally, there are also narcissists who like to lie about their achievements and successes. All they want is for others to admire them as much as possible.

When the people around them discover that they were all lies, they stop admiring them. At that point, the narcissist leaves the group and joins another group. There he can make an impression all over again.

The Sides of Narcissism

Finally

As you can see, it is important that we know how to recognize the different sides of narcissism. These people are suffering inside. Yet they make others suffer even more. So it is fundamental that we be careful and learn how to recognize them.

Trying to change them or get them to see a therapist are often not plausible goals. Narcissists will never admit they are wrong.

That’s because they don’t think they’re making mistakes. It’s the others who make mistakes. Plus, they like to play the victim. So they often think “Poor me, everyone is trying to outdo me.”
