Dear Self, I Deserve To Be Treated Better

Dear self, I deserve to be treated better

Dear self, I deserve to be treated better. I will use this moment in front of the mirror to tell you how you make me feel. Have you ever considered that everything you say to me, you actually say to yourself?

I have tolerated everything from underestimation to criticism. Why are you so unkind to me? Maybe you have completely forgotten that we are actually the same person?

I want you to know that this is not a letter of complaint; you complain enough for me. What I want to achieve with this letter is that you see that you have a lot of things that you do not see yourself. Therefore, stop focusing only on the things that hurt us.

Don’t feel sorry for yourself anymore

Dear self, how many times have I listened to you complaining about me? You don’t show much respect for who we are. Self-pity seems to be one of your favorite pastimes and you never give yourself a chance to see the good qualities we all have.

Hand for Eyes

You keep going through life asking why you don’t have everything you deserve. However, have you ever considered that you may have more than you realize? I wish you could stand in front of a mirror and for once not criticize your nose or belly, but be thankful for the legs that allow you to move from place to place.

You may not see it that way, but self-pity will do you nothing. If it was at least constructive criticism that would push you to do certain things, it would still be worth it.

Don’t bother me with anything anymore

With every chance you get you come up with something new that you can call me out for. The problem is that this is never even slightly pleasant. Dear self, what if you put in some effort and finally understood that your physical characteristics do not define who you are? Serious! Just think about this and you will see that this is absolutely true.

Instead of calling me “fat,” you should say I’m “nice.” Really, try not to look at me in such a negative way anymore. You are more than that. You are intelligent, kind, a friend, a father, a mother.

If that shortcoming that bothers you so much is really important, try to change this shortcoming. There’s no point in complaining about yourself all your life. I really wish you would put as much effort into your insides as you do your outsides.

Surround me with people who love us

Dear self, it is already a huge burden to have to deal with all the things you have to say to me. But when you also meet up with all kinds of friends who only want to criticize me, that’s not nice at all. Have you ever considered that you might be surrounding yourself with too many toxic relationships?

Not only do I deserve to be treated better, but you could also make an effort to hang out with people who have a positive influence on you. People who help you recognize your good qualities and who make every day of your life a little better.

Leave all that gossip, all that silliness that solves nothing anyway. Why don’t you hang out with that girlfriend who tells you how good you look every time she sees you? You’re very beautiful, it’s just a matter of believing in this.

challenge us

Heart

When was the last time you did something you thought you couldn’t do before? Dear self, sometimes I feel like you don’t know me at all. You are afraid to challenge yourself because you are afraid to fail. It is ironic, however, that you fail to see that you are failing the moment you convince yourself that we couldn’t do it.

No matter what it’s about, I want you to challenge me to move on. Let’s cross boundaries and make our dreams a reality. I try to talk to you through desires and hopes, but you only respond to this with reality.

Can you tell me what reality is? The way I see it, reality is only what you experience as real. Give me the chance to show you how much potential you do have!

Dear self, be yourself

The last thing I want to ask you is if you can please be yourself again. Between all those obligations, fears, doubts and frustrations, I don’t even know who we really are anymore. I’m just asking if you can be that kid again who laughed out loud and dreamed.

I know life is hard and life has let you down sometimes. I also know that you cried several times because your heart was broken. However, this is life: to love, to grow, to laugh, to cry, to hope and to start over.

Please don’t put me aside. Dear self, I am you and all I ask of you is that we live our lives with passion, as if the world could come to an end at any moment. I don’t know if we’ll be back here tomorrow to try again.
